Welcome to the Almost Great Blog! I’m Harry Paul, my day job is Co-owner and manager of a Blackbird Bakery + Cafe in Staunton, IL. My wife and I have been running this dream business since 2019 while raising 3 beautiful boys. I probably don’t have time to start a blog but I’m trying to replace scrolling time with things I actually enjoy. Despite how mad they make me, I assure you, I do enjoy being a Bengals fan. I love to talk and debate sports, so a blog feels like an appropriate thing for me to do.
I titled this blog Almost Great to reflect the perpetual state of the Cincinnati Bengals when they have good teams. Success Waxes and Wanes for all teams but we have never been able to reach the pinnacle of the sport, even when we get close. My friend and fellow Bengals junkie Matt used to speak often about how the current core of Bengal’s (Burrow/chase/Higgins/ZT) is so close to being good. We can taste it, but we just haven’t been able to break through. My goal with this blog is simply to document my feelings and analysis of the Bengals for what I feel will be their first Super Bowl Championship in a rematch with the Rams in Sofi. I plan to do weekly game previews and recaps and when time allows offer in depth analysis on things like, player profiles, draft analysis, free agent deep dives, and any topic that piques my interest.
Thank you for reading and I look forward to a great season! Who Dey!
